Every Landmark Restaurant Has a Beating Heart
At Tharavadu, the heart of our success lies in the kitchen. From day one, our mission has been to share the authentic flavours of Kerala, and it’s our chefs who bring that promise to life. Their passion, knowledge, and skill are what have made us one of the best Indian restaurants in Leeds and a nationally recognised culinary landmark.
The Founding Visionaries
Our story begins with Ajith Nair and Rajesh Nair, two chefs born and raised in Kerala. Growing up in the ancestral homes that inspired our restaurant’s name, they learned the craft of traditional South Indian cooking from a young age.
When they brought that knowledge to Leeds, they didn’t just cook — they told stories of Kerala’s villages, markets, and coastal kitchens through every plate.
A Menu of Authentic Layers
The result is a menu often described as a “cheery marriage of layered flavours.” Dishes like:
Each recipe is a testament to the bold aromatics and subtle balance that make Kerala’s food unique.
Award-Winning Leadership
Our commitment to excellence was recognised in 2024 when Head Chef Ajith Kumar won the Best Chef Award at the Oliver Awards. This honour not only celebrated his skill but also cemented Tharavadu’s reputation as a restaurant led by genuine culinary masters.
A Team That Preserves Tradition
Our chefs don’t just prepare meals — they protect Kerala’s heritage. Every spice blend, every coconut-based curry, every dish served at Tharavadu is crafted with authenticity at its core. Yet they also bring creativity, ensuring our menu appeals to modern diners while staying true to tradition.
The Secret Ingredient? Devotion.
At the end of the day, the success of Tharavadu isn’t about awards or reviews — it’s about devotion to authenticity. Our chefs embody that devotion, making sure every guest feels the same sense of comfort, culture, and community that defines Kerala.
