When Cricket Meets Cuisine
Some restaurant endorsements are polite compliments. Others carry the weight of history, culture, and connection. For Tharavadu, one of our proudest honours has been becoming the favourite restaurant of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team whenever they visit the UK.
For players thousands of miles away from Kerala, Tharavadu is more than a restaurant — it is a home away from home, serving the food and warmth they grew up with.
A Relationship Built Over Time
Our story with the team began when Indian cricketers started dining with us during their tours of England. Word spread quickly, and soon legends like Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma became regulars, openly sharing their love for Tharavadu.
Kohli once described us as his “favourite restaurant in Leeds” — a simple but powerful statement that travelled across the world.
Onam With the Team
In 2021, this bond reached a new height when the Indian Men’s Team and their families celebrated Onam with us at Tharavadu. Onam is Kerala’s biggest cultural festival — a harvest celebration centred around the grand vegetarian feast known as the Sadya.
To have the Indian team choose our restaurant for such a significant moment was humbling. It was proof that what we created in Leeds was authentic enough to make even the most seasoned travellers feel at home.
The Players’ Own Words
For Kerala-born cricketer Sanju Samson, the experience was deeply personal:
“It felt really nice to find a place like this in the UK. It felt like being home.”
These words capture our mission better than any marketing line ever could. Tharavadu is not just about food; it’s about comfort, belonging, and cultural connection.
A Global Endorsement for Leeds Dining
The Indian Cricket Team are global icons with millions of fans. Their love for Tharavadu is more than celebrity endorsement — it’s a testament to our authenticity. When the world’s top athletes, with access to the best dining everywhere, consistently choose us, it cements our place as the best Indian restaurant in Leeds and a contender for the best in the UK.
